Are there any studies evaluating the use of histamine-2 receptor antagonists (H2RA) with clopidogrel (Plavix®) as it relates to clopidogrel's ability to prevent stent thrombosis or platelet aggregation?
This is part 2 of a 2 part series related to the drug interaction between histamine-2 receptor antagonists (H2RA; cimetidine (Tagamet®), famotidine (Pepcid®; Fluxid ODT®), nizatidine (Axid®), and ranitidine (Zantac®)) and clopidogrel (Plavix®). Part 1 addressed primarily the pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic data regarding the H2RAs and their ability to interact with clopidogrel via the cytochrome P-450 (CYP) enzymes.(1) This issue will address the presence of any known data with the coadministration of clopidogrel along with H2RAs as it relates to cardiovascular disease (CVD).
