What data are available regarding the efficacy of clopidogrel (Plavix®) on platelet inhibition or reactivity when given with a proton pump inhibitor (PPI)?
This is part 3 of a 3 part series related to the drug interaction between proton pump inhibitors (PPI; dexlansoprazole (Kapidex®), esomeprazole (Nexium®), omeprazole (Prilosec®; Zegerid®), lansoprazole (Prevacid®), pantoprazole (Protonix®), and rabeprazole (AcipHex®)) and clopidogrel (Plavix®). Part 1 of this series described the functional activation of clopidogrel by the cytochrome P450 (CYP) enzymes as well as the differences that PPI can have on those enzymes.(1) Part 2 reviewed the studies to date regarding the impact of PPIs on clopidogrel efficacy in protecting patients against additional cardiovascular (CV) related events.(2) Part 3 will summarize the information available about the impact PPIs have on clopidogrel's ability to inhibit platelet activity.
As described in part 1, clopidogrel is an agent that binds to and....
There is a table that summarizes all of the studies to date that have evaluated the impact of the interaction between PPIs and clopidogrel on platelet inhibition or reactivity.
