What are some common medications that are known to be influenced by the activity of the enzyme, thiopurine methyltransferase (TPMT)?
This newsletter publication is a continuation of the preceding newsletter publication summarizing the common genetic polymorphisms associated with the thiopurine methyltransferase (TPMT) enzyme. Thiopurine methyltransferase is an enzyme most commonly found in red blood cells and can contribute to the metabolism and elimination of some medications. As such, the focus of this publication is related to the identification of common medications whose metabolism and/or pharmacological profile is affected by the degree of functionality of the available TPMT (see table below).(1-7)
